Spot and Stain Guide

You found my guide to carpet stain removal.
The first thing you’ll probably notice before you need to get your carpets and upholstery cleaned, is the appearance of spots and stains. There is a difference.

A spot is easily removed soiling that sits on top or between the carpet fibers. A stain is actually penetrated the dye sites on the carpet fibers.

Very simply put, carpet fibers typically respond to dyes based on either their acidity or alkalinity.

Food-based stains can penetrate these sites and create a stain that is permanent. Some products are capable of permanently damaging the carpet when used by consumers attempting to in properly remove a stain.

No job is easily accomplished without the right set of tools, so you’ll want to have more than just a towel and a bottle of soap to remove spots and stains. I’ve taken all the guesswork out of what you should have on hand, and I’ve put together a list of the most common and useful spotting tools to use with carpet spot cleaners.

When I was cleaning carpets on a daily basis, I ran across several common stains in nearly every household. Among the stains I encountered were chocolate stains, bloodstains, plant stains, red wine stains, rust and furniture stains, and probably the most common by far, those coffee and tea stains.

I’ll try to provide carpet stain removal solutions to help you remove the spot, and where possible give you access to the professional solutions as well as common household solutions widely available at your supermarket or pharmacy.

If you are going to be removing stains from your own carpeting, I highly recommend a fully stocked spotting kit. You can contact me for where to get a spotting kit, or I can arrange for the purchase of one for you from a professional supplier.
